Signs to watch
Is this you?
You want dark frames that won't warp
Fiberglass barely expands with heat, so it holds dark exterior colors that would stress and distort a vinyl frame over time.
Large or tall openings
Big windows are where vinyl's flex shows. Fiberglass's strength carries wide spans and tall sashes without sagging or racking.
You want more glass, less frame
Because the material is so strong, fiberglass frames can be slimmer than vinyl for the same opening — more daylight, a cleaner sightline.
You're staying, and want it done once
If this is the long-haul home, fiberglass's durability and stability make it the frame that outlasts the decision to replace it.
Your options
Why fiberglass, and how it compares
Fiberglass frames are made from glass fibers set in resin — the same reinforcing fiber that's in the glass pane itself — which is why they barely expand or contract as temperatures swing. That dimensional stability is the whole story: seals stay tight, dark colors hold, and frames don't warp or rack the way vinyl can. It's stronger than vinyl and doesn't rot, swell, or need painting the way wood does, so it splits the difference — closer to wood's strength and looks, without wood's maintenance. Factory finishes and paintable options both exist. The trade-off is honest: fiberglass costs more than vinyl, and where warm natural wood interiors are the point, wood-clad still wins the room.
The method
How we do it
- 01
Measure and spec each opening
Every opening measured and every window ordered to fit, with glass and finish matched to exposure and the look you're after.
- 02
Install, inspect, seal
Old units out, openings checked for rot, new units set square, insulated, flashed, and sealed against the weather.
- 03
Function walkthrough
Every window opened, locked, and tilted with you watching before we sign off.
Straight numbers
What fiberglass costs
Fiberglass sits above vinyl and generally below wood-clad on installed cost — you're paying for strength, stability, and finishes that hold. It earns that premium on large openings, dark colors, and long-term homes. Size, glass package, and finish move the number, and whole-home projects get volume pricing in writing.
Where we do this work
Fiberglass Windows: straight answers
Is fiberglass really worth more than vinyl?
On the right openings, yes. Fiberglass barely expands with temperature, so it holds dark colors, keeps seals tight, and carries large windows without flex — things vinyl struggles with. On standard-size openings in light colors, quality vinyl is the better value. We'll tell you which of your openings actually justify the upgrade.
Fiberglass or wood windows?
Fiberglass gives you much of wood's strength and slim, refined look without the painting, rot, and swelling wood demands in our wet climate. Wood-clad still wins when a warm, real-wood interior is the whole point of the room. For durability with low upkeep, fiberglass is usually the smarter Northwest choice.
Why can fiberglass frames be so thin?
Because the material is exceptionally strong, the frame doesn't need as much bulk to stay rigid. That means a narrower profile for the same opening — more visible glass and a cleaner sightline than an equivalent vinyl window, which needs more frame to hold its shape.
Does fiberglass handle Northwest weather well?
It's well suited to it. Fiberglass doesn't rot in the wet, doesn't swell, and its low thermal movement means it doesn't stress its own seals through our heat-and-cold swings. Paired with Low-E coatings and argon fills tuned for a heating-dominated climate, it's a durable, efficient fit here.
